June, it is now over 58 years since you and I first met on a bright spring day in May of 1951. We were both 23 years of age. I was home on leave from the Army. My father Tom introduced us at a small cafe in Barron. Wisconsin. Our first date was the following evening on the 23rd of May 1951 at a cozy little Restaurant called "The Spot" on Lake Chetek narrows. After dining we walked and talked by the lake. That was the beginning of a lifetime together.
For the next 57+ years we would be united in a lifetime journey of courtship, marriage, establishing a home, raising a family, travel and adventure.
We were married at Bloomington, Illinois on the 16th day of August 1952. Today is our 57th anniversary. You have been my life's greatest blessing. You were like the sun around which my world revolved. You gave me unconditional love, a life without regrets and you truly did make my life an adventure.
It has now been 9 months and 24 days since God took you home last October 23rd. For almost 11 years you had waged a long and a weary battle with Alzheimer's. As you lay exhausted and tired, God ended your suffering and his angels carried you to a land beyond the sunset, a land where there is no Alzheimer's.
Remember June, when I would tell you how long I would love you.- well nothing has changed -
“I will love you until China Meets Africa.
I will love you until the Salmon sing in the Streets.
I will love you until the Oceans are folded and hung up to dry.
I will love you until the Seven Stars go Squawking like Geese about the sky”.
I will love you until the sands of time cease their endless trickle.
You are still the first thing on my mind every morning and the last thing every night. You will always remain the love and light of my life....Now I have your precious memories. There is a beautiful old Gospel song of the same name that I have slightly revised to better tell our story.
Precious Memories, unseen angels
Sent from somewhere to my soul
How they linger, ever near me
As the sacred scenes unfold.
Precious memories, how they linger
How they flood my soul
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious, sacred scenes unfold.
Alone I travel down life's pathways
I Know not what my time may hold.
As I ponder, hope grows fonder
Precious memories flood my soul.
Happy anniversary sweetheart.
Stan
