The Manager of the Fridley Applebee’s (Denise O’Connell Goodwin) at 5277 Central Ave. NE, in Fridley, MN arranged an Alzheimer’s research fund raising event (Dining to Donate) in the Memory of June K. Berg. June a resident of Fridley who died after an 11 year long struggle with this terrible disease.

This special "Dining to Donate" event was scheduled for Tuesday March 27th 2012 at 4 PM to 9 PM. (Normal evening dinner period)

Special flyers announcing the event were printed and distributed. Denise was herself very active in distributing the flyers to the local citizens. Denise appeared at the Fridley Senior Dining luncheon where she gave a talk on the event and passed out flyers to all in attendance. Denise also contacted the Lion's Club members and provided "Dining to Donate" flyers to pass out to their members.

The Applebee’s organization agreed to donate 15% of the dinner bill for anyone who presented their server with one of the descriptive flyers of the event during their dinner at the set time and date and location.

Denise has been a special friend in honoring June K. Berg’s memory and Alzheimer’s awareness at the Fridley Applebee’s location. Many months ago she designated Stan Berg’s (June’s surviving husband) favorite booth as the Stan and June Berg booth complete with brass name plates on the backs of each booth seat. In addition she arranged to mount one of June and Stan's wedding anniversary pictures at the back of the booth.

Denise has also assisted Stan Berg in distributing sugar free candy to the residents of the Benedictine Health Care Center in New Brighton during Christmas Day 2011. Because of Stan's age and physical limitations, Denise physically carried all of the 40 boxes of chocolates with special presentation cards about the premises so Stan could personally make all the individual presentations to the residents in June's behfalf. This is the nursing home that June was a resident during the last days of her life in her struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Applebee’s “Community Connections”:  This charitable fund raising event is all a part of the Applebee Corporate posture that they refer to as “Applebee’s Community Connections”. Since the Applebee’s locations around the country are numerous, (over 1900) I would recommend that family members of Alzheimer’s victims who want to do something to strike a blow for Alzheimer’s research and at the same time promote the memory of a beloved family member struck down by this terrible disease, make use of this series of programs. The first step would be to find a nearby friendly Applebee’s manager like Denise and get the program moving! I cannot believe you will easily find another manager like Denise but I am sure you will find a manager willing to help you get this program in action.

NOTE: The flyer is necessary and critical to getting the 15% donation and must be presented to the server!
