"A GREAT GRAND-DAUGHTER - NAMED JUNE IN HONOR OF HER GRANDMOTHER JUNE"

---
On August 1st 2012, the 10th Great Grandchild of June K. Berg was born as a daughter of June’s Grandson Erik. Grandma June has a total of 23 Grand children of which 12 are Great Grandchildren and 1 is a Great Great Grandchild. This Great Grand child was named “June Marie Petersen”. The first name “June” was to honor her Great Grand Mother June K. Berg. The middle name “Marie” will honor another great Grandmother on the Mother Melanie’s side of the family.

The baptism of little “June” was held at the St. Clement Catholic Church in NE, Minneapolis on 7 October 2012. This 99 year old church has many beautiful large stained glass windows. The Baptism was performed by Father Simonson. While June K. Berg and her grandson Erik are both Lutheran’s, the Catholic Church was selected because this was the same church and he same Priest that baptized the mother Melanie. Since both Catholic and Lutheran churches are Christian churches and the rites of Baptism are similar, this did not present a conflicting family religious problem.

Great Grandmother June made a special love gift to her new Great Granddaughter June. Because Grandmother June was in heaven, the special gift was presented by Great Grandfather Stan Berg in behalf of Great Grandmother June.
The special gift was Grandma June K. Berg’s study Bible from her days in the Redeemer Lutheran Church…this special Bible was presented with the following letter by Grandfather Stan Berg:
---
“A Gift of a Bible from a Great Grandmother to her Great Granddaughter”
“This love gift of a Bible from Great Grandmother June K. Berg is for her Great Granddaughter “June Marie Petersen” on her Baptism Day, Sunday October 7th, 2012.
This Thompson Chain Reference Bible – New International Version – 1983- Red Letter Edition is the personal Bible used by Grandmother June for several years during her work, study and worship at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, Minnesota. Grandmother June’s name is printed in gold lettering on the cover of the Bible. In addition, Grandma June has written her name in ink at the top of the title page on the Inside the Bible. Also included are two of Grandma June’s book marks as she left them in place in the Bible.
I am sure that if Grandma June is looking on from her heavenly window, her heart is overflowing with love and pride for her little Great Granddaughter who is named and baptized “June” in her honor!
Because Grandma June is in Heaven, I am delivering her Bible love gift for her…
Grandpa Stan”

Note:There is much more than just a name that honors Great Grandmother “June”. Little “June Marie Petersen” possesses the DNA…literally the blood of her Great Grandmother “June” runs through her veins!

Postscript: A big thank you and an expression of heartfelt gratitude to both Erik and Melanie for honoring Great Grandmother June K. Berg by naming their newly born (1 August 2012) baby daughter “June”.
It is no secret that I have been more than a little disappointed over the years as I watched a series of granddaughters and great granddaughters born without this honor previously being bestowed!
I am sure that when the word reached Grandma June in her heavenly home, she responded with her usual million dollar smile.
Grandma June was a humble person who gave little import to her own accomplishments…
June was a generous lady without guile or pretense...not one to have expressed disappointment.
I can think of no one more deserving of such an honor. My only regret is that June is no longer with us and could not be here in person to participate in the joyful baptismal ceremony.
Perhaps someday little “June’s” father Erik can describe for her what it was like to be loved and cherished by a loving and attentive Grandma June...Great Grandfather Stan

“Little Granddaughter June’s” First (1st) and Golden Birthday Party
“Little granddaughter June” celebrated her 1st birthday at a special “Golden” birthday (1 August 2013) party organized and held at the parents home (Erik and Melanie Petersen) in Big Lake, Minnesota on Saturday 3 August 2013.
Invited Friends and relatives gathered at shaded chairs and tables arranged in the back yard of the Petersen home. Weather was sun shiny and a pleasant day in the lower 70’s.
“Little June” had her own small colorful birthday cake which she seemed to thoroughly enjoy…at one year of age, one does not concern themselves with table manners or the use of a fork when one's hands are the most effective...fist-fulls replace fork-fulls in the one year old's version of etiquette. A large cake was also provided for the invited guests along with sandwiches, chips, fresh fruit and cold drinks.
A colorful ample sized candy filled pinata was suspended from the second story porch overhang. When broken open, an abundant supply of candy littered the ground to the delight of the several children at the party...who quickly snatched them up and filled their little plastic bags.
After a period of socializing, gift and card opening for “Little June” ended the afternoon party…”Little June” appeared to enjoy the special attention, appeared content and frequently displayed a big smile.
I had my turn holding, talking to and enjoying “Little June”. While little children at such a tender age never have later recollections of such events, I am sure the parents and friends and relatives will long remember the occasion.

June's Passing
After an almost 12 year journey into the shadows of Alzheimer's, early one morning in late October 2008, an exhausted June felt God's gentle touch on her shoulder and heard the words: "Come Home June!" As June lay like a wounded soldier on a battlefield, it was God's Angels that ushered June into a Heavenly Kingdom to the sound of a chorus of Angels...and into June's new home, a "Mansion on the Hilltop", where there is no pain, nor illness nor tears...June's funeral notice as published in the Minneapolis Star in October 2008 can be seen on this website in the drop down menu under the "In Memoriam" label - just Click on:
